Before we begin .. The Prologue ... (Aw, Frankie Howerd)
I subscribed to the Eaglemoss series to build a 3D printer last year! It was fairly obvious that it was something I was going to do. As soon as I saw the ad I was on my computer and signing up! When I saw Steph later that day I said to her, "I've subscribed to something, a new magazine. What it is ... ", "You're getting that 3D printer thing aren't you?" .... so ... yeah :)
Weeks went by and I hadn't received anything or had any word that there was an issue. After getting in touch with Eaglemoss I received a reply saying "I'm sorry to say that there has been a delay with the launch of the collection. We are waiting to hear back from the publisher regarding the length of these delays.".
I was in ASDA later that week and saw issue 5 on the shelf. B******s. I got back in touch and was told "Yes, that is this current moment in time the collection is not going any further than issue 5. We will let you no on what happens with the rest of the collection.". Dammit. It didn't go ahead.

14th January 2015, I get an e-mail saying that they are now going ahead with the series! Get in! It said that my subscription would be automatically moved over and that as a thank you for early interest I would get issues 1 & 2 free. Fair enough. For people who actually got the original issues it wasn't as good as there was a note saying that the original 5 issue components were not compatible with the new series.
Again .. WEEKS went by with no word and no deliveries. Apparently, as the original; payment method entered into PayPal, despite the update to my PayPal payment method, my subscription was not moved over. Had to phone customer support, and to be fair the guy I got was helpful and got me sorted out.
A couple of weeks later and a package arrived, so ....
Time to start building
Actually, not so much. I'll explain why in a bit.
Here's what arrived as the first two issues. Two component packs and three things to read.
Written Materials
The three reading materials are issues one and two along with an overview of the printer that will be built. The overview includes a brief history of 3D printing. Did you know, the 3D printing process was invented in 1984?! I thought it was a hell of a lot more recent than that. That's one of the reasons I decided to subscribe to this...I wanted to learn more.
The first couple of magazines seem quite interesting. Not expansive in any way, but a good base to start from. They point towards 3D printing uses, advances, impact, etc. I think there's a lot to build off of in the future. I do worry that there won't be enough to fill the 90 odd issues. I hope to be and am sure I'll be proven wrong.
I'll write more about the magazines when I've had time to read them properly.

Component Packs
The bits that came so far aren't much, as was expected. That's why I said it's wasn't quite time to start building. Obviously I am going to follow the build details to the letter....for the most part. The instructions come and are given as if you are doing something every week. So for the first two I would be screwing things in place that I would later have to take off, add parts, and then replace the original part. I don't like that. It's just a "me" thing. I feel like it would take away from the integrity of the final build....yeah, I know.
What I've decided to do is do the build in bursts. I'll let the parts accumulate and then build sections.
Anyway, here are the first two packs. From what I can gather, they are parts of a base and running pole.

Missing?
Along with the first delivery was supposed to be the first ring binder to keep the magazines in. Well, it wasn't there. I'm assuming that this is because I had to explain to the support guy about the two free issues and they have been dispatched early as a separate entity. In my next delivery should be either issues 3+4 along with my binder, or issues 3-6 with my binder. We shall see. I'm just glad we've actually got started now :)
Next up ...
I think that posts to this blog will be pretty limited. If I'm building in bursts I'll post during the build elements, unless anything particularly interesting comes through.
